Deforestation Of The Amazon Rainforest

Category:

The Amazon Rainforest is a unique and lush eco system. It largely consists of over a billion acres of land encompassing areas in Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia and the Eastern Andean region of Ecuador and Peru. The Amazon Rainforest birds account for about one-third of the entire world's bird species, and more than half of the world's ten million species of plants, animals and insects live in this plush forest. The Amazon also plays a huge part in medicine, with over a quarter of the medicine we use today having their origins from the rainforest. Deforestation is probably the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of the Amazon, but did you know that over 65% of deforestation is actually due to cattle ranching? Closely following is small-scale agriculture, and large-scale agriculture following suit. In fact, the smallest cause of deforestation is logging, which comes in at less than 3%. Logging in the Amazon also has a reforestation program, while cattle ranching not only cuts down the forest for grazing pastures, but plays no effort in reforesting or replenishing this tropical forest. The infographic provided offers plenty of information just like this, and more that you were perhaps unaware of. So the next time you think of using some Brazilian hardwood for your decking plans, refer to this infographic and remember - degradation in the Brazilian rainforest is actually declining due to the establishment of national parks and conservation areas.
